Foliage shape is smaller, and very oblong - almost looks very similar to typical foliage of most boxwood species New growth is lighter green, maturing to the darker shade. Foliage Color & Texture : Evergreen broadleaf - nice glossy finish to the medium green leaves. Soil Preference : Average to slightly acidic - prefers well drained soils Growth rate & foliage density will be slightly decreased in fairly shaded locations.

Growth Rate : Moderate to fast ( 8" - 10" avg per yr ) Mature Height : 8 - 10 ft have seen a 12 footer on occasion ( if left untrimmed ) Works very well when planted at corners of buildings.especially if you need to hide an unsightly rain gutter downspout - have also seen them used to plant around central A/C units to help hide them from view. Has a great formal look, which lends itself well to use along walkways, driveways, and on sides of entrances. Makes a great choice for a low maintenance privacy screen or border in areas where width is restricted, or limited.

Responds very well to trimming / pruning if height is needed to be kept at a shorter height than if allowed to grow naturally. So, when you combine the wonderful features offered by Sky Pencil Holly, you get the following: nice green glossy evergreen foliage year round, tidy slender columnar growth habit, mature height range of 8 - 10 feet on avg, even tolerates semi shaded locations.although growth rate will slow just a bit with increased shade. And there is no trimming / pruning required to keep them within these height & width parameters. It is naturally a very tall, slender, narrow grower - reaching heights of 8 - 10 feet on average, but with an overall average width of only 2 - 2 1/2 feet. The growth habit of Sky Pencil Holly is what really sets this Holly cultivar apart from all the others. In fact, the foliage is rather small, oval shaped.somewhat similar to that of Boxwood, but with more of a glossy finish to it. This Holly cultivar is not known for berries, and does not have the type of foliage one would normally associate with the word "holly" - there are no prickly, pointy, needles or spines to the foliage of Sky Pencil at all.
